The Cooper City Optimist Baseball & Softball programs are proud to host the Major League Baseball® PitchHit&RunTM Skills Competition presented by Scotts®. This national skills program provides boys and girls, ages 7 to 14, the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities.

Girls and boys compete separately and advance through all four levels of the competition in separate divisions. Boys participating in PHR will use a baseball and follow the baseball guidelines and girls will use a softball and follow the softball guidelines.

Major League Baseball® PitchHit&RunTM tests three of the most fundamental aspects of baseball/softball -- pitchinghitting and running.

PITCH: Participant is tested throwing strikes to a designated “Strike Zone” target.

HIT: Participant hits a ball off a stationary tee for distance and accuracy.

RUN: Participant is timed, starting from second base, touching third then touching home plate.

All of the events are individually scored and converted to a total point score through the use of conversion tables.

Words of Wisdom
"The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime"

~ Babe Ruth

He Is Just a Little Boy
He Is Just a Little Boy

He stands at the plate
with his heart pounding fast.
The bases are loaded,
the die has been cast.
Mom and Dad cannot help him,
he stands all alone.
A hit at this moment
would send his team home.
The ball meets the plate,
he swings and he misses.
There's a groan from the crowd,
with some boos and some hisses.

A thoughtless voice cries,
"Strike out the bum."
Tears fill his eyes,
the game's no longer fun.
So open up your heart
and give him a break,
for it's moments like this,
a man you can make.
Please keep this in mind
when you hear someone forget,
He is just a little boy,
and not a man yet.
